Why Is The
Muslim A Muslim?
God is sole creator and master of the world. He is first
cause and final end. Humans are his servants. Human service consists of
kneading and molding the world and people into what it and they ought to be.
Not only is such service possible but the well-being and happiness of humanity
depends on it. All this is Islam’s view
of reality. This view is not without
ground and justification, nor isit devoid of problems.
The firs
striking characteristic of Islam is that its view is wholly positive. Its seems
to prescribe the doing of good, and trust that the moral imperatives can and
will be obeyed. But are not humans by nature inclined to do the opposite, to do
evil? Is it not human nature to sin, defy God, and disobey the moral commandsments?
Are not humans “Fallen” creatures in need of ransom and salvation before they
can be expected to do good.
The
people are by nature inclined to sin and to defy and disobey God certainly
true, answer Islam. But, Islam claim, it is equally true that people’s nature
is also inclined to obey God, to do good and act ethiically. The two are
possible for them, and they incline to the one as much as they do to the other .
